CatApps stores its application catalogue, categories, favourites, hidden apps, custom display names, ordering, and preferences on your Mac. Custom icons are copied into the app’s local Application Support folder.

Finder alias folders

If you enable folder syncing, CatApps creates and updates application aliases in the folder you choose. It preserves unrelated files in that folder.

Optional Deep Check

Deep Check is optional. When you run it, CatApps can send an app name and bundle identifier to public research sources, including Apple’s Mac App Store search, Wikipedia, and Homebrew. It may also retrieve up to two matched official product pages.

On-device categorisation

When Apple Intelligence is available, CatApps can use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models framework to help categorise an app. If it is unavailable, CatApps scores the same research evidence locally.

Your choices

Manual categories, names, favourites, ordering, and hidden-app choices remain on your Mac unless you export them yourself.
